Hanging Moon

ceramic lamp

"The full moon hangs on a branch".

In Korean literature there is such an expression. The designer has reproduced this phrase in the lamp design. The shape of the socket is designed to hang plexiglass, and when the bulb is turned on, the plexiglass hanging from the socket also lights up, completing the shape of a full moon. The user can change the color of the plexiglass as desired.

Inspiration : The full moon hangs on a branch.

I found this expression very attractive and tried to use it as inspiration when designing a lamp.

The literature, especially the pictorial representations, offers designers a lot of inspiration. In Korean literature, the phrase "the moon is hanging on a branch" is commonly used to represent the beautiful full moon. I found this expression very attractive and tried to use it as inspiration when designing a lamp.

"나뭇가지에 보름달이 걸려있었다."

Brainstorming with Sketch

The design project focused on the base part. Sketches were brainstormed on the keyword “hanging” and a design depicting indentations in an octagonal column was selected from among several sketches.

Molding Process

The advantage of this design was that it could be made quickly because it doesn't split the mold into multiple shapes. In addition, this concept goes well with the planned keywords, since the acrylic glass can be hung up here.

Final Design

The color orange resembles the moonlight when the lamp is turned on and creates an interesting atmosphere even in the dark.

To symbolize the full moon, the acrylic glass is made into a special shape, creating suspension and symbol at the same time. The acrylic can be securely hung in the recesses on the top of the socket. It is very easy to replace it with another color of acrylic.. Therefore, the user can change the color of lighting depending on the atmosphere of the place.
